Sawmill Licensing

If you use: 

(a)  machinery or equipment to saw or cut logs into planks, boards, slabs or any other form of sawn or cut timber;


(b)  trade in or store locally purchased lumber

You need a licence ​to operate from the Forestry Department

How to get a licence:

Step One: Complete an application form, which is available at Forestry Department’s Offices across the island and on the Agency’s website.

Step Two: Submit the completed form and pay the application fee.

Step Three: On approval, the applicant will be contacted and required to pay the licensing fee.

Step Four: Collect the licence.


The Licence:

•  Is issued for a calendar year  (January 1– December 31)

•  Application fee is $250 and is non-refundable

•  Licence fee is $15,000 p.a.

•  Applications completed accurately take up to two weeks to process. 


After January 1, 2015, if you are found operating a sawmill without a licence, you will be liable for prosecution.

Offenders could be fined up to $50,000  and in default of payment spend up to a year in prison for operating without a licence.
